NOOBS – Raspbery Pi Raspbian and XBCM OS installer

Raspberry OS installation just got easier for newbies. There is an installer called New Out Of the Box Software, hence the name NOOBS the noobie installer. You can download it from http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

You can chose from a list of available Operating Systems designed for Raspberry Pi. To install it:

  1. Log into your desktop PC.
  2. Download a copy of the NOOBS zip file.
  3. Save it in your local directory then unzip it onto SD card.
  4. Several OS you can chose from the list. Select Raspbian for default Linux desktop OS, or RaspBMC / OpenELEC if you want to create a media player.
  5. Once installed, insert the SD card and boot your Pi.

To enter recovery mode:

1. Hold the shift button during boot

2. Supposed you need a more advance option, you can edit the configuration in config.txt and cmdline.txt via Config Editor.

At the moment of writting, NOOBS does not support dual-booting yet, you can only install one OS in the SD Card. Have fun!
